I got my flying licenses before I got my drivers licenses (18 to drive in Norway). And yes, I've watched Triumph in the Skies. lol They make flight training to be such an easy task :p But good thing is, I'm done with all that, but I still have bi-annual checkrides which is like a practical exam I have to do to prove that I can keep flying (airline likes to keep me on my toes).

Hook ups? No... Not really. I started flying when I was 16. Got all my american certificates and became a flight instructor. I did that for 2 years to accumulate some flying time. And then I applied to multiple airlines and finally landed a job @ Jetblue which I am incredibly happy with.

It's tough in the airline industry. People pay $100k for their flight training and may never ever get a job due to the sheer competitiveness in the job applicants. I would have to say that the 50% who complete their training successfully, only 10% of them make it to the airlines. It's tough. There's so much theory you have to absorb in regards to aerodynamics, aircraft systems, hydraulic/brake systems, meteorology, and communications just to name a few. I had to take 14 theoretical papers before I got to start flying which includes the topics I just mentioned. And oh, you gotta pass the medical test too. hehe If you lack in the cardio department, you better suit up for the 1-3-5mile run at the medical testing center. Hearing, perfect vision is of course a must.

If you have family, chances are... divorce will be in order and your kids will starve to death because an F/O pay starts extremely low, however increases each year.
