I'm getting trophies for reasons I don't know. Rofl.

I didn't buy the guide for the walkthrough. I bought it because it's the Collectors Edition and apparently it was sold out everywhere.

apparently this game doesn't live up to all the hype... apparently it has a super linear story line, and that there's some glitches with the new crystal engine that it's using..

is it still worth the buy though?

I've read mixed reviews but didn't take much of it to consideration. Square has taken a big gamble with this game and it seems like they couldn't please everyone.

I'm a long time FF Fan so regardless if this game was good or not, it's still a must have for me.

My short review of FFXIII

Pros:

Graphics
Its Final Fantasy.
The black dude is cool, its nice to see some variety.

Cons:

I had no idea what the hell the story was about, nor did I understand the politics until after 4 hours of gameplay, which meant i was like "WTF ARE THESE PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT" for that entire time.

Battle system took me 6 hours of gameplay before I actually really got into it. Paradigm switching wasn't really necessary until the one boss battle with the Pulse Machine.

Extremely linear. To the point where I feel like im just playing through a movie. After playing games like Dragon Age and Mass Effect 2, I'm really put off by it.

Everything is really cliched.

The character Hope is a fucking pussy, Snow is an idiot, Lightning is the stereotypical 2D character who has a whole other side to her which they won't reveal until later, and Vanille is an annoying hottie, but you aren't sure if she is 18 or like 13, which is off putting.

I'm hoping that by hour 10 or so it will improve. Its a serious amount of time to invest in a game where you're not sure where its going.... but its final fantasy, so i'm going to play it through regardless. I'm no where near as impressed with it as I was with FFX and FFXII. I like having an open area with some secret areas to explore on a chocobo and shit. I don't mind a linear storyline, as long as it gives me at least some minor choices along the way... so far FFXIII seems to be missing that.

If you're into Final Fantasy, you're going to buy it regardless, so there's no point in reading any review. I just wish those Japanese developers would play a game like Mass Effect 2 and realize that there is so much more potential when you make an open ended world.

So far I give the game a 6/10. But that is tentative... There is still like 60 hours of gameplay left I suspect, so it might get alot better. So far its damned mediocre.

lol yea im like almost 7 hours in and i can't give a shit less about the characters or the setting but the paradigm shift system is actually okay, well its kinda weird not having control. lol if you called uncharted linear, this is a rail shooter but whatever graphics still beauty cause of the setting but definitely after seeing uncharted 2 nothing is ever that pretty although the cg still damn blows your mind. I cant see myself replaying this though since there is basically only one path and not like dragon age (i platinumed that guess my hours).

anyways dan if you a ff fan still get it, i mean i don't care what people say. unless it gets like a 5 from all major publishers or so id still get it if i have been anticipating for it like 5 years ago. seriously though vanille, is it me or is that chick having a orgasm all the time goddamn annoying jailbait. the only problem with this game is that it should've been released early 09 when it would've been the best looking game at the time, yes im a graphics whore dont hate. btw the music is friggin awesome (maybe i haven't heard memorable ff music in a game for a long time) except the rock-ish tracks feel soo damn corny.

lol masterg just get a damn super nintendo and play your shit.

I agree, the music in FFXIII is incredible. There are a couple jazzy tracks in there which really shine. Nobuo Uematsu really outdid himself with this one

the thing about metal gear is if you bought it you probably new every damn character in the game and you liked the characters (who didn't like snake hes the guy you root for the whole game) already and also the storyline continues whereas ff13 is a fresh story. also in metal gear you can kill a guy or go through a mission with like 100 different combination of ways or so. i didn't even use the bot on my first playthrough. you can kill someone or stealth through the thing. even stealth, you can stun rod then camo. roll in a can. hide in a box. put some p0rn mags. well lets say mgs the gameplay wasn't linear.
