Out of my pocket for the phone was $450 which was with 2 year contract renewal.

I only paid for the phone and case while they pay the plans x.x.. Well, I already cut down on the data plan. At first, I wanted to get the 2gb data for $25 but ended up with 200mb for $15.

lol meh, its not about what you can or can't afford, its about how much you're willing to spend ultimately.

I make around 2300 a month now... i spend about 550 a month on miscellaneous things and still feel like im broke on occasion... in reality I have a fair bit of money to spend. As a fellow of half chinese lineage however, my genetics tell me that money in the bank is essentially untouchable.

Could I buy an iphone 4 straightup? Yes. Could I afford a 80 dollar a month plan? Yes.

Do I really want to? No.

Extrapolating my future expenditures, I'm going to need around 40 thousand dollars for a masters degree and then another 100 thousand for a mortgage in the next 5 years. With this in mind, money in the bank should really stay in the bank.

yea it's true, it's ultimately dependent on how much u want to spend. besides many students have iphones. why? they use their student loan to get it. so it just depends on how badly u want it at the end of the day. for me, i wouldn't get the iphone 4. it's not value for money when there are other devices such as htc desire which are almost as good but at like half the price.
